UNSW Publications Data Collection for the Higher Education Research Data Collection HERDC

The Higher Education Research Data Collection is run by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) - previously DEST - and comprises research income and research publications data submitted by universities each year.

All researchers who publish their work must complete an Authorship Declaration Form and submit it to the School Office with a paper copy or CD of the published works with the required publications cover sheet. Full details of publications data collection are available through the GMO website publications page which contains the UNSW Publications Manual.

Publications which have one or more UNSW author, and which satisfy the criteria set out in the HERDC publications categories are included in the scores reported to DEEWR and used in the allocation formulae for government funding under the Institutional Grants Scheme (IGS) and Research Training Scheme (RTS). We commonly refer to these funds as part of the Research Quantum - these impact directly on the School operating budget.

Please complete a Cover Sheet for each publication and submit verification materials for each publication. For DEEWR Categories: 2 copies of the cover sheet and verification materials. For non-DEEWR categories: 1 copy of the cover sheet and printed publication. A statement of authorship and location of data form must be submitted for each publication. It is the responsibility of the Executive Author (UNSW principal co-author) to obtain signed statements of the intellectual participation from all participating authors. The Executive Author is also responsible for ensuring compliance with record keeping of the evidence of research and its output.

The categories included in the DEST collection are:

	Book - Authored Research (A1)
	Book Chapter - Commercial Publisher (B)
	Journal Article - Refereed, Scholarly Journal (C1)
	Conference Publication - Full Paper Refereed (E1)

You also need to submit non-Dest categories data for the UNSW Research Report.

Once the data has been uploaded into the UNSW database, the Grants Management Office will provide us with a report which we shall add to the publications database on the School website. In this manner the publications information for each member of staff will be updated on the School website.
